In brief: PTSD treatment

Ssri anti depressant are known to be effective.
Combination treatment is the rule. Alpha blockers antihypertensive are also known to suppress nightmares while also helps sleep deeper. Anti-depressants with sleep effects [ssri do not help sleep directly, but trazodone, tca do] are most frequently used. Occasionally ptsd insomnia very severe need anti-psychotic add-on to sleep. No sleep no cure.

In brief: Agree w Dr Truc

Selective serontonin reuptake inhibitors are first line.
Prazosin is excellent off label for nightmares and insomnia. The combination of melatonin & Buspar (buspirone) is often helpful for sleep. Atypical antipsychotics may be needed for severe dissassociation. Try to avoid benzodiazapines for chronic conditions. Many others can be considered.
