In brief: Inflamed vein

Phlebitis means that you have an inflamed vein.
Usually the vein becomes hard, the skin over it swells, turns red, feels warm and hurts. It is important to know whether you have a blood clot or not though. That takes getting an ultrasound. An injury can cause phlebitis, or geting your blood drawn, or having an iv. There are medical conditions that can cause you to get phlebitis too.
