In brief: Follow up with Doc

Follow up with your PCM if you are not improving, particularly if you are running a fever or if your cough is getting worse.
Rapid Strep tests are helpful diagnostic tools, but are often falsely negative. A Strep culture is more reliable, but takes 3-4 days for results. Bottom line, if you are feeling worse, your Physician will want to know.

In brief: Common problem

Viruses are a major cause of sore throats and they tend to self resolve over a 1-2 week period.
Mono and strep have far more associated problems than the others but once these are excluded, comfort care is the primary treatment.
