Considerable. Kidney stones can cause significant pain as they either block (obstruct) the urine flow and cause pressure to build up, or simply by moving down the ureter (they are often very sharp). On the other hand, "liver damage" (and i don't know what you mean by that) should not cause any pain. Gallstones might cause pain in your right upper quadrant but this is not liver damage.
