In brief: Anxiety?

anxiety can be at the root of it.
a swallowing study should be done and possibly and endoscopy.

In brief: Probably nothing

It is possible that you are gulping air when you eat or drink water and that is the cause of the burping.
These normal tests are reassuring as long as you are not losing weight, vomiting or having abdominal pain

In brief: Depends!

This is a very uncommon problem, no wonder finding the answer is difficult! The big question appears to be whether you stop burping when you talk out loud or not.
Constant burping that can stop when talking or distracted, is called supragastic burping. This is a tic-like disorder, or a motor habit, that can be treatable with behavioral therapies. http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/776875_2

The other docs are all right also. It depends on how bad the problem is. My take on it was that it was so excessive & persistent that your doc thought you needed a serious workup. But that was my interpretation/impression from your question. If yours is not that bad, what a relief! and you can see from the article how much worse it could be!
