Is Aleve (naproxen) or ibuprofen safer to take if you have high blood pressure and you are on blood pressure medication?
Both affect BP. All NSAID's, including ibuprofen and naproxen, have the potential to increase blood pressure (BP). In most people the change is small but, on occasion, a significant elevation of BP may occur. Consider monitoring your BP (call your MD staff so they can assist you in arranging for you to drop in randomly for 3-6 BP checks over the next several weeks) to see if BP is affected while on a NSAID.
Careful. All meds like these can raise bp. Of more concern is your bp med. If acei or arb when combined with NSAID (aleve (naproxen) Advil) it can harm your kidneys. Best to talk with provider treating your high blood pressure. These meds can be used but close monitoring of bp and blood work to check kidney function needed. Hope this helps. .
