In brief: Nerve injury

Following a heat closure procedure of the great saphenous vein, the saphenous vein between the knee and the ankle can be traumatized resulting in pain or numbness along the inside of the leg from the knee to the ankle.
Fortunately, many of these nerves will return to normal usually within 18 months. Sometimes the numbness could be permanent.

In brief: Nerve damage

Nerve damage is a difficulty problem, no matter how it occurred.
EVLT of the saphenous vein does have a small risk of "heating" a adjacent nerve & leading to nerve damage which can cause chronic pain. If often improves with time & can also leave some numbness of the adjacent skin. Recommend exercise to stimutate blood flow & neuropathy med such as neurontin (gabapentin) if the pain is severe.
