In brief: Plan ahead

Plan what you'll eat ahead of time; it's ok to indulge but compensate w/ exercise & by cutting back elswhere.
Before eating drink 2 full glasses of water to help fill you up & decrease the desire to overeat. Avoid snacking @ parties by standing far from the food table. For drinks, stick with water. Take small portions & avoid 2nds. Enlist the support of family/friends to help keep you on track.

In brief: Attitude is key!

I realize that the holidays are difficult diet-wise, but only you control what you put in your mouth.
If you want to indulge a bit, plan on it and modify your other actions. Get more exercise, watch your intake of refined foods, limit your calories at other times, and have a positive attitude. You can enjoy the holidays without consuming a lot of junk food! focus on family, love, and fun.

In brief: Moderation & exercis

Sometimes i just need that piece of winter pecan pie! the trick is moderation and planning.
First, by planning for the season of decadence by exercising aggresively to build muscle year-round, you actually become "less diabetic". This makes little dietary slips like dessert less problematic. And if the slice of pie is a reasonable size, often there is little trouble.

In brief: Moderation

During the holidays it is common to share large meals with family and this is a very tough time to eat healthy - diabetes or not.
Be wise and choose small portions - thus you will not offend anyone while still tasting most dishes. It takes great self-discipline. Just realize that nothing tastes as good as being healthy.
