Do counselors and therapists make things worse by making you think strange ideas?

Unlikely. Most patients come in with the strange ideas that the therapist may uncover. The role of therapy is to challenge these ideas and replace with more rational ones. No one should be able to make you think one way or another. You should be free to reject or correct any false notion by your therapist. This make you stronger and more confident in your ideas and able to protect yourself from others.
