Can I get genital herpes down there if I have a cold sore?

Yes. If you scratch your cold sore and then scratch your genital area, it is possible to develop herpes lesions in the vaginal area too. It used to be thought that type 1 herpes only occurred above the waist while type 2 occurred only below the waist, but it turns out that you can get either type in either location - or any other location on the body, for that matter.

Is it possible to get genital herpes if I have a cold sore, kiss my partner, and then let my partner go down on me?

Herpes transmission. Two types of herpes are recognized, one mainly on the face, eyes, and oral cavity, the second in the genital areas. But, there are exceptions and one type may affect the other area. So while unlikely, the answer is still yes. Oral fluids contain virus, which may be ping-ponged from you to partner, and back. And once established in a tissue, herpes is there permanently. Don't take chances. Read more...

If I have a cold sore thats going away and I performed oral sex on my girlfriend for 8 seconds, will she get genital herpes?

She can. There's no way to tell now if she will, but it is possible, even if the lesions are "healing." i would suggest that she contact a health care provider right away and request a rx for acyclovir. This interferes with viral replication, and could, at least in theory, prevent her from developing herpes. Always abstain from contact until your lesions are entirely healed, just to be safe. My mom handed me a mug she doesn't have a cold sore. I have PJ bottoms on I then scratched my thigh while I have PJs on. Can I get genital herpes?

Your question. Doesn't really make a lot of sense to me. I can't quite follow it. But basically you need to know that genital herpes requires close skin to skin contact. It doesn't leap through clothing like pjs. Read more...

Possibly have a cold sore, kissed girlfriend who doesn't have one and then she gave oral sex. I'm very worried. What is the odds I get genital herpes?

Viral exposure. The oral herpes virus is very common and can unfortunately manifest as lesions on post the lips and the genitals. if either of you has the virus and have engaged in oral sex, then transmission is possible. Nevertheless if you maintain good health and community than the likelihood of recurrence and symptoms will be low. Fortunately herpes is treatable, but you guys should talk about it together. Can I give my girlfriend genital herpes if I get cold sores and give her oral sex, but don't have a cold sore at the time? And if I give her cold sores, and she gives me oral sex, can I get genital herpes?

Cold . Cold sores or fever blisters are caused by herpes simplex virus type 1 (hsv-1) and are extremely common. Most people become infected as an infant or small child when kissed or by sharing eating utensils with an adult who has the virus. The virus is most contagious when someone has a cold sore, but can still be passed along by someone who does not. Many people do not even know that they are infected because the virus can "hide out" in the nerve cells for very long periods of time - for some people it hides out forever and they never get a cold sore. For others, the virus can "wake up" and that's when a cold sore happens. No one knows exactly what causes a cold sore to appear - sometimes stress, illness, fevers, colds, sunlight, cold weather, menstruation, certain foods, allergies, you name it! they usually last 7-10 days and are more of an annoyance than a danger unless you have a weakened immune system or contract a bacterial infection on top of the cold sore. Genital herpes is typically caused by herpes simplex type 2 (hsv-2) and can only be spread via sexual contact with an infected person. The bad news is that you can get an hsv -1 infection in the genital area from oral sex. The good news is that 80% of the population have been exposed to it and have antibodies to hsv-1 that will help protect them. Your girlfriend has already been exposed (by kissing you) and you already have hsv-1, so both of you likely have antibodies and so have a low likelihood of causing genital infections with hsv-1. If I have a cold sore & wipe saliva w/ my fingers on my penis to penetrate my gf, can she get genital herpes? I didn't touch the sore, just my tongue.

Herpes 1 and 2. Most herpes on the face is type 1. Most people already have it but have no symptoms. Saliva and contact with your mouth is exposing her, but she is probably already in possession of this virus, so she will notice nothing. If you want to know, you and the girl can both have blood tests to discover who has which herpes virus. You may be in for some surprises. Read more...

Not likely. Although there is a low likelihood that you transmitted herpes to your partner, it is possible to transmit virus from a cold sore and thus transmission to your partner could result in her developing genital herpes. The herpes virus could go from your cold sore to your hand and from there to your penis. Read more...
