Guanfacine has been used for treating adhd for about 15-20 years.
A few years ago, a once-a-day version (intuniv) got fda approval for use in treating adhd. Both work. Unlike stimulants, it give 24-hour coverage of the same key symptoms--inattention, impulsivity, hyperactivity. Major side effects are daytime tiredness and sluggishness and not working (about 40% of people respond positively.
