Ertapenem or Invanz is a carbapenem antibiotic with broad spectrum "antibacterial activity against gram positive, gram negative aerobic and anaerobic bacteria.
It has excellent activity against esbl producing bacteria. It is not active against pseudomonas, proteus or providencia species of bacteria or mrsa. Most strains of enterococcus are also resistant to ertapenem.
