Safe overall. Retinal laser is used for diabetic retinopathy and for retinal tears most often. The treatments are usually safe and effective. Complications are rare though sometimes encountered. An errant laser can cause a black spot in the vision, but this is rare in experienced hands. Also rare are problems with the pupil dilating. The benefit of laser to patients should exceed the risks otherwise why do?
