In brief: An insulin releaser

Glyburide (called glibenclamide outside the U.
S.) Is a sulfonylurea anti-diabetic agent. It causes the pancreas to release insulin. It can do this even in the absence of food, so can cause the sugar to get too low. Glyburide can be a problem in the elderly, again because of the risk for low blood sugar. If you take this medicine, it could be dangerous to skip meals.
