Recently the FDA approved Zeljanz (tofacitinib).
This works by inhibiting certain enzymes called JAKs. It can be used alone or with DMARDS such as methotrexate, however not in combination with biologics like Enbrel (etanercept). There is good efficacy and safety data. However, certain labs such as blood counts, kidney and liver function tests, and cholesterol need to be monitored regularly.
