Lexapro (escitalopram) or remeron for Generalised anxiety disorder, Which is best please?

Generalized Anxiety. Thank you for informing about diazepam 8mg daily, Lexapro 10mg and Remeron. Lexapro and Remeron are not specific medications for treatment of Generalized Anxiety Disorder. Therapy with Medication is more beneficial. Discuss with a Psychiatrist: •Medication interaction of Lexapro, Remeron and Diazepam. •Use of Ativan, Xanax, Klonopin or Serax for GAD and ongoing monitoring for Tolerance •Therapy.
Depends on you. Both are typically appropriate therapy, though side-effect (SE) profiles differ. Remeron tends to be sedating at night, is easy on the stomach, has no sexual SE's, and can increase appetite at low, but not usually at higher doses. Lexapro (escitalopram) is not sedating usually, but can cause mild, brief, stomach upset, and can have sexual SEs. Both generally fine with other meds except no clonidine with Remeron.

Is remeron (mirtazapine) used for Generalised Anxiety Disorder. Thanks?

Not quite. Mirtazepine is a very useful antidepressant that is also helpful for insomnia, especially secondary to a depressive disorder. Sometimes, some doctros prescribe it to enhance the deep (restful) phase of sleep. However it is not known for its effcacy to relief anxiety, except as secondary to a clinical depression. Depending clinical presentation, Alprazolam or Paroxetine are more suited for anxiety. Read more...
Remeron & GAD. I tend to see it used the most in patients with insomnia. It can cause significant drowsiness so I don't see it used very often as an antidepressant. Read more...

I am on 20mg Lexapro (escitalopram) and 45mg remeron for anxiety. I get very aggressive. By reducing Lex to 10mg would it be o k. Thanks?

Check with doc. Your doc is best person to advise you. Lexapro (escitalopram) is an SSRI remeron is dual acting --my guess would be if Meds are related to your aggression it would more likely to ne due to norepinephrine/remeron than the Lexapro (escitalopram). Read more...
