To lose weight I have to keep my heart rate high, but just how high should I keep it?

Not true. You heart rate is irrelevant. If you eat fewer calories than you burn, you will lose weight, even if your heart rate is always 30! what you're thinking is that you should be active and that's true as it will help you burn more calories, but more importantly, it will keep you in the right mind set. Nonetheless, no one loses weight through increased activity, only by eating smarter and less.

I want to lose weight. I'm jogging and eating healthier. What's the ideal heart rate while at jogging to lose weight fast? How long each each session?

Congratulations. Congratulations on being motivated. I would suggest focusing on having fun while getting fit. Jog at a pace that makes you feel alive and vital. It should feel like you are making a solid effort, break a good sweat, but don't over-strain. Don't worry about heart rate, etc. Slow and steady weight loss is generally more sustainable than fast. Eat at least 5-8 servings of vegetables & fruits per day. Read more...

What are some exercises to increase heart rate/metabolism to lose weight?

Light resistance training can help somewhat, as muscle has a higher metabolic need than fatty tissue. And be sure to consult a physician before you begin any new exercise regimen. Read more...

In order for me to burn fat and loose weight, not burn my muscle off. What should I try to keep my heart rate at when I work out? I am 29 and 130lbs.

Great Question! The fat burning range in general is between 120-150 bpm. This keeps you in a fat burning heart rate zone. Keep in mind when you are losing weight it's the food that keeps your body burning fat instead of muscle. You cannot be at a calorie count below 800 and expect to only burn fat. Nutrition (esp. Protein) is key to weight loss, with exercise and finding out if anything else is medically wrong. Read more...
