In brief: More likely hernia

Common things commonly occur & hernias are very common.
Femoral nerve pain would be confined to the leg & often associated with leg weakness. Ilioinguinal nerve travels thru inguinal canal (next to hernia , if present) & sends branches into scrotum & into upper & inner thigh. Thus hernia pressing on ilioinguinal nerve is most likely cause, followed by other causes of Ilioinguinal nerve pain.

In brief: Groin strain

This sounds like a typical groin strain.
Are you an athlete or might you have started a new exercise regimen? Generally, these will heal within a couple of weeks.
