In brief: Notes for you

It's a resin material placed on the biting surfaces of teeth to reduce the risk of developing dental decay.
The process doesn't take very long. Basically, the tooth will be cleaned thoroughly. Then the surface will be prepared for the sealant with a gel. The sealant is then flowed onto the tooth surface and made hard typically with a light. That's it!

In brief: Pit/ fissure sealant

Dental sealants are a thin layer of plastic the covers the pits and fissures of a tooth.
This prevents bacteria from getting into those area- or prevents the bacteria that are already in those areas from getting foods to metabolize. This prevents or arrests tooth decay since it's the bacterial acids that demineralize teeth, destroying the tooth and resulting in tooth decay.

Sealants are perhaps the most under utilized preventive measure in dentistry. Another advantage of sealants is they actually create a smoother surface for the tooth which is easier to keep clean.

In brief: Bowel regiment

Add a bowel regiment to your daily routine.
Use laxative, water, fiber, stool softner, to achieve two soft bowel movements daily. Softer and smaller caliber will help your fissure heal. Sealants can be helpful.
