How long after having contact with someone with genital herpes can you get tested to find out if you got caught?

In brief: Two weeks or more

If you have not developed clinically apparent lesions and you have gotten the virus from your partner, it will take about 2 wks (sometimes longer) to develop antibodies.
The problem is, that you may have gotten this unknowingly at a prior date, and you will not be able to tell how long the antibodies have been there.
