In brief: ?need ? effect?

Magnesium sulfate is one of the better tolerated methods of handling maternal blood pressure in labor.
Maternal effects at higher levels include respiratory depression, low blood pressure & heart rhythm block. It is a category 1 (no risk) for the fetus although i occasionally see respiratory depression, apnea spells in a newborn if it has high blood levels, which fades after they start to urinate.
