In brief: Pregnancy

The main concern about pregnancy and ulcerative colitis is after having surgery (colectomy) in which adhesions (scarring) can obstruct the Fallopian tubes.
But pregnancy can still be achieved with assisted reproductive technologies.

In brief: Not usually

Most patients with ibd can expect normal pregnancy rates.
However those in with a total proctocolectomy with pouch decreased fertility has been documented. Patients who are very sick with active difficult to control ibd may have problems conceiving.
