In brief: Alot
Soma (carisoprodol) is more of a tranquilizer than a muscle relaxer. Zanaflex (tizanidine) is an excellent muscle relaxer than truely works to relax spastic muscles (unlike soma).

In brief: Completely different
Although both are known as muscle relaxants, Zanaflex (tizanidine) is really a muscle relaxant.
It works by decreaseing spinal cord reflexes. Soma is actually more of a sedative even though it is prescribed as a muscle relaxant. They are different chemically and completely different in how they work.
