In brief: Normal
Low grade pain is normal following an endo procedure as is slight swelling.
Bruising is usually caused from the injection and is unavoidable. An endodontic procedure is time consuming and a few patients have a hard time staying open which is frustrating for the dentist and patient. Would you rather lose your tooth?

In brief: Not unusual
The pain and swelling, as well as occasional bruising associated with root canal therapy can occur whether the procedure was performed by a new endodontist or by a seasoned endodontist.
Is the comment regarding being "rough" and "hard" related to your inability to keep your mouth open during the treatment? You may consider asking for a mouthprop if you require additional dental procedures.
