Are both cluster headaches and migraines related to the trigeminal nerve? If so, how are they related? How does the trigeminal nerve affect one's head

In brief: Superb questions!

You are apparently young and smart.
This could be a good research project for you. Cluster headache, like trigeminal neuralgia, produces what is called a "neuralgiform" pain syndrome (no space for details). Migraine is different. But both are neurological syndromes. The exact biological differences are poorly defined. "Cortical spreading depression" is more typical of migraine.

In brief: Cluster-migraine

This diagnosis is usually used for patients who have features of a migraine headache while going through a cluster episode.
In other words, the diagnostic criteria for one type of headache are present with a few characteristics of the other. Fundamental to an understanding of migraine headache is knowledge of the trigemino-vascular complex which is the major pain-signaling structure of the brain.
