In brief: Thyroid System

Your thyroid is an organ that is part of the endocrine system that involves the pituitary, adrenals, pancreas and ovaries (women) or testicles (men).
Your thyroid does not operate in isolation. All members of the endocrine system need to work in harmony for your overall health. Your thyroid needs adequate tyrosine, iodine, magnesium, zinc and glutathione to manufacture you thyroid hormones.

The thyroid gland sits low on the front of the neck.
It helps to control metabolism and also the way other glands might respond to other hormones. In infants and toddlers it is also vital for brain development and helps to mediate growth and puberty throughout childhood.
