Does anyone take hyoscyamine (levsin) for ibs. If so, any side effects?

Used for spasm. Levsin, (hyoscyamine) a form of hyoscamine, is used to treat bowel spasm and also diarrhea related to excessive bowel peristalsis. Caution is advised in the use of the medication for crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. Can cause constipation; other side effects include dry mouth, dry eyes; rare serious side effects can occur, as with any drugs.

Acute IBS attacks. Have prescription levsin (hyoscyamine). 125mg. It's old (aug'11) & little help. Has med potency waned? Can I boost dose amt & or freq til I can get new rx?

Levsin (hyoscyamine) could be taken every 6 to 8 hours as needed and you can take it orally or sublingual which is faster acting.If .125mg is not working for you , you can increase the dose to .25mg.Also if you not responding as before need to look for other factors including your stress level and dietary habit. Irritable bowel. IBS or irritable bowel syndrome can be a miserable illness. Hopefully you have a GI doc who can help guide you along. You may be malnourished from all the diarrhea/pain/malabsorption you've suffered through. That could certainly affect hair growth and affect the immune system (weakening it) allowing acne to form.
