In brief: They will be.
At some point, the industry will mature to the point where most ehrs will have some sort of patient portal where you can access and view all your medical records through the web.
That being said, for legal reasons the storage of your medical records ultimately falls on your doctor. If they're the one recording the info, they need to take responsibility for it.
