Amikacin is an intravenous aminoglycoside class antibiotic.
Pharyngitis is usually an outpatient issue that can be handled with oral antibiotics. I'm guessing the patient is hospitalized, and if it's a complicated case of pharyngitis (abcess? ) then antibiotics should be directed towards whatever is cultured.
