In brief: Not Necessary
Iron supplementation is not necessary in healthy children, toddlers or infants.
There is an ample amount in formula and breast milk and in children in their normal diets. If the child has iron anemia you can treat with iron drops to replenish the iron stores needed to maintain a normal red blood cell count. Ask your doctor whether your child needs iron.

In brief: As directed
If your doctor prescribed iron drops, you should take them as he or she directed.
If they were not prescribed by your doctor, i recommend that you don't take them at all. Iron supplementation can cause significant health problems if it is not indicated. In addition, it is not a good idea to have iron supplements in your home if you don't need them, especially if young children live or visit there.
