Can anal fissures cause dryness & itchiness in anus & pain just inside anus? Does desitin (zinc oxide diaper cream) help with the discomfort?

In brief: Anal pain fissures.

These can cause both anal pain as well as itching especially if beginning to heal.
Keeping your stool soft and maintaining a healthy diet will help promote resolution as well. Desitin (zinc oxide diaper cream) is for External application. I would consider using some organic unrefined coconut oil applied to the affected area. Hemorrhoids or a possibility causing the same symptoms as well. Go to doctor if symptoms persists.

In brief: Anal Fissure

An anal fissure does not cause dryness but can be caused by excessive dryness.
Desitin (zinc oxide diaper cream) can help w/ dryness but is unlikely to heal fissure. Fissures are difficult to heal. Keep your bowel movements soft with stool softeners like Colace, drinking lots of water and taking fiber products. Take 2 Sitz baths a day - a warm shallow bath with a 1/2 cup of Epson salt. Use OTC Lidocaine (LMX) for pain.

In brief: Hemorrhoids

It sounds like you might have Hemorrhoids .
Try to increase fiber & water in your diet and add a fiber supplement . See your doctor for a rectal exam snd at least an anascopy procedure , to deter main if you have internal Hemorrhoids . You may benefit from a steroid cream or a steroid suppository . Anal fissures usually bleed with Hard BM's . Are you having any rectal bleeding ?
