3 doctors agree

In brief: 4 small. 1 bigger

Of course it varies between doctors.
Most docs use 4 small (1/4 inch) and one larger (1 inch) to do band.

Four total. One is an inch. Sometimes we can do it with one scar

In brief: Small

1-5 incisions from 1/4 inch to 1.5 inch.

In brief: Small

Gastric banding or lap-banding procedures are performed laparoscopically.
This means small incisions. The majority of incisions are 5 mm in size. The port site is larger, usually about 1.5-2 cm. Most surgeons will perform the procedure with 4-5 incisions, however some can perform this with just 1 our 2 incisions. There is no advantage to less incisions other than cosmetic. It will take longer thou.
