In brief: Better prognosis

The idea is if we screen for a cancer and find it earlier then there is a greater chance it's found in earlier stages and cure rate is higher. Treatment of course varies and is different for the stage of cancer. As more and more people are surviving a type of cancer finding it early had a lot to do with those observations and studies.

In brief: In theory,

...Finding a cancer earlier through screening should make therapy more successful but that is not so except in relatively few cancers (breast, colon, cervix, maybe lung) for which treatment at an early stage results in higher cure rates.
Also, screening only works for common cancers for which such tests are readily available as well as relatively simple and inexpensive.

By diagnosing any cancer early, after localizing and confirming that it is cancer by biopsy ,most of the time in accessible areas except in areas less accessible or compromising situations in certain delicate areas of brain in sometimes even without biopsy based on other characteristics confirming the cancerous nature treatment is planned and targetted towards the cancer site. Wen cancer cells are destroyed /removed early by surgery, chemo, radiotherapy we give less chances for the cancer cells break from the surface, mix into the circulation and go and sit in another place and they can grow into a secondary tumour. Similarly at the base of the tumour we can avoid infiltrating into the deeper structures of the same tissue , of different tissue like blood vessel ,nerve etc causing pain and easy spread along the course of the blood vessels and the nerves. In simple fact we don't want the early cancer to become big and occupy more space , more tumour load ,more medications to kill the cancer cells which have unwanted side effects on the body to avoid pain and for better quality of life including cosmetic effects.

In brief: It depends...

It depends on the cancer.
Eg... Yes - colon ca, brca (hence screening), lung ca (new ct screen study) likely no - cll rai 0 (early and asymptomatic), indolent lymphomas.
