Can vitrectomy for epiretinal membrane cause glaucoma to worsen. I currently have 25% optic nerve damage.
Low risk. There is some transient increase in pressure during the surgery, but this is usually tolerated well unless you have severe optic nerve damage. Also, epiretinal membrane surgery is fairly short in duration. Your doctor will also monitor your eye pressure while you are on steroid drops after the surgery as they can also make your eye pressure go up. Good luck. .
Early stage glaucoma & moderate stage epiretinal membrane same eye not affecting vision much now. W/both diseases potential for central vision loss & peripheral vision loss causes anxiety. Prognosis?
The risk is very low. An epiretinal membrane is a common finding in 60 y/o female and typically remain visually insignificant. If it becomes visually significant, surgical treatment is very successful. Mild glaucoma is very treatable, and with appropriate followup and treatment, peripheral vision loss can be prevented. Central loss is extremely rare. Read more...
Diagnosed with epiretinal membrane, that dr will watch. Also have early glaucoma & early cataracts in same eye. Which condition would be causing glare?
Complicated. They all can cause decreased vision. If the glaucoma is "early" your doctor can stop its effect. The cataract can easily be corrected with surgery. The epiretinal membrane, if it gets worse, can also be fixed with surgery. Both the cataract and erm can cause glare symptoms, but more likely the cataract. Read more...
