Central puberty. This term refers to the early turning on of the brains signals to the gonads. The area of the brain which signals puberty is called the hypothalamus and pituitary gland. This is distinguished from "peripheral" puberty due to adrenal, testicle, or ovarian disorders.
True puberty. Cpp is what happens when the pituitary gland starts to secrete lh and FSH which stimulate the ovaries or testes to make hormones which cause breast development in girls or testicular enlargement in boys. Typically the ages defining precocious are prior to 8 years-old in girls and prior to 9 years-old in boys.
CPP. This is true puberty. When the pituitary gland begins to secrete pubertal levels of lh and fsh which act on testes or ovaries to initiate testicular enlargement in boys or breast development in girls. Cpp can only be diagnosed when girls are < 8 yo and boys < 9 yo. After this age, it is no longer precocious.
Is there a relationship bethween Central precocious puberty in childhood and the slow down of basal metabolism in adulthood? Thanks
No. Most central precocious puberty in girls are benign and not related to adult illness or metabolism. Most central precocious puberty in boys are due to brain tumor, and need to be treated.
