In brief: Whole wheat &pasta

All carbohydrate turn to glucose in your body, but that does not mean it is not good for you or is harmful.
Whole what bread is helthier then white bread as it has fiber which is good for your bowels and has less calories. For pastas it depends what it is made of and that gets converted to glucose as well. Our body needs carbohydrates, and whole grains are better then refined, it may be bread or pasta.

In brief: Glycemic index (GI)

How quickly something turns into sugar is called the glycemic index.
Food that quickly converts to sugar is worse for you then food that takes longer to breakdown. Many whole wheat breads & pasta still have a higher GI & are not as healthy. Look for breads that are made w/no sugar, keep your whole wheat pasta al dente if you need to eat it. Brown rice, quinoa, millet, steel cut oats r great option.
