I got a blood test for my beta- hCG 4 days after unprotected sex and was negative, is 4 days to early to test?

Testing. Yes. Of course. Conception takes one to five days after sex to occur. And then a fetus is not in any way physically or chemically to the mother for ten to fourteen days after conception. This has to happen before any test could be accurate. I cannot believe any honest doctor would spend money on a test in this scenario.

I had unprotected sex January 1st I'm having a Beta HCG a blood test tomorrow, could it come back positive?

No, too soon to test. Conception, as defined by the generation of a fertilized ovum, occurs within day or so of the sex. However, it takes about two weeks for the embryo to make enough HCG to produce a positive pregnancy test. Blood test may be done a day after a missed period. Home pregnancy tests should be done 4-5 days after the missed period. Use first morning urine and follow instructions for the test carefully. Read more...

Hcg blood test level under 2 @ 26 days after unprotected sex. I'm on the pill but took the 1st one a day later than usual by mistake. Should I re-test?

See below. Did you miss a period after sex, if you did not, you are not pregnant. An HCG level of two 26 days after sex argues against pregnancy. You may wish to do a home pregnancy test in 4-5 days, use first morning urine and follow the instructions for the test carefully. If you get a period before that, then there would be no need for the test. Read more...

Hi. I had unprotected sex with a guy. I went 30 days after exposure and got a blood test for hiv and syphilis they came back - Should I trust this?

Yes. I'm going to assume that the HIV test was a nucleic acid test. I trust that you'll have good memories of this experience, however imperfect it may have been, and that you'll play safe if something like this happens again. It's good for a young adult who's not in a monogamous relationship to be checked for both of these yearly. Best wishes. Read more...
Yes, repeat in 4 wks. Due to the 4-6 wks window or incubation period of HIV, a repeat test at 6-8 wks is generally recommended for confirmation. For your safety, please avoid sex without condom, outside of a strictly monogamous relationship! Stay healthty. Read more...

Retest at 3&6 months. For HIV, it can take up to 6 months after exposure to develop the antibodies that are detected by the test. So retesting is recommended usually at 3 and 6 months post-exposure. For syphilis, antibodies can take several weeks to be produced, so again, if you are concerned, another retest in the future may be indicated. Testing for other STDs such as chlamydia and gonorrhea is recommended also. Read more...
