In brief: Up to 3 weeks

Children may show lingering symptoms of an RSV illness for several weeks, despite treatment.
Rsv symptoms routinely last 2 to 3 weeks. Call your doctor if symptoms last more than 3 weeks, or anytime if symptoms abruptly change or worsen.

In brief: Define recovery

RSV effects kids in a variable way at different ages.
It can vary from a runny nose with a positive test in a 3 wk old to near respiratory failure at the same age. In a 3 year old it is usually less intense, by 6 it is just a cold. The worst/younger kids get better over a few weeks but may have intermittent wheezing for months. When they get it again next year it is usually milder.
