In brief: Ear cleaning
Never put anything smaller than your elbow in the ear, an old wives tale that is true even today.
Only clean the outer ear with soap and water and a wash cloth. Do not clean with a q-tip in the ear canal. This can hurt and usually just pushes the wax back.
