Does the vitamin E in vitamin E creams really do anything for stretch marks or skin scars?

Yes and no. In my experience, scar massage (with or without vitamin e) can be very helpful for speeding the improvement in the appearance of scars. Unfortunately, I have not found it to be helpful for stretch marks.
I doubt it. There is no credible evidence that i'm aware of that vitamin E decreases scars or stretch marks; one study concluded that it actually made scars worse! I do have patients that swear it worked on their stretch marks, but stretch marks improve on their own sometimes; i've never been able to persuade anyone to apply it to one side of the body and not the other, to find out for sure.

What's to be expected? Might vitamin E cream get rid of my stretch marks?

No. Stretch marks are tears in the skin cause by weight gain. They can be covered up, but not improved by creams and lotions. The only possibly effective therapy is cosmetic plastic surgery, but that's a big step for a non-health and non-life threatening problem. Read more...

Will vitamin E cream take to heal scars?

Possibly but... Vitamin e cream is a common home remedy for scars but there is little evidence it works; still many people have found it helps- applying oil from natural e capsules may work better than cream. There are many other remedies that may help, including calendula cream (my favorite), peanut oil (advised by edgar cayce), tamanu oil, raw honey & aloe vera.
