Many children & their pediatrician want to maintain their relationship until child graduates college at age 22+ years. Adolescent pediatricians often fill the gap between pediatrician and internist or family dr. Some children want to leave their pediatrician by age 16, especially if they don't have a same sex dr.. Those kids should be allowed to graduate.
