Docs, could a bacterial throat infection be cured without taking antibiotics?

Yes but risky. Say you were on a deserted island and developed a throat infection in time you body would hopefully be able to overwhelm the bacteria and you would clear the infection. Using saline mouth rinses could help but antibiotic reduce the number of bacteria so you immune system gets the upper hand. If you don't take antibiotic you risk the infection getting worse or spreading.
