In brief: Cold teethers

Teethers that are handheld and put in the freezer for children to bite with their sore gums are the best things for teething pain.
You can also give age-appropriate Ibuprofen as well.

In brief: Clean them

Teething pain is a result of bacteria beginning to populate the oral cavity, and inflames the thin gum tissue as the new tooth erupts.
The best way to keep the soreness down is to clean them with a small finger brush. This can be dipped in a very diluted mouth rinse. Also, freeze a wet bath cloth or get a freezable teething ring that the baby can work some soreness out on.

In brief: Teething pain

Frozen ice rings you can buy in grocery stores or baby stores help.
Also "baby anbesol" numbs the gums but may be disarming to the baby in and of itself. Also a baby Aspirin can lessen the discomfort.
