Hi docs, can you tell me if skin lightening creams are safe for acne scars?

Not for scars. The hyperpigmentation that follows the acut lesions and lasts for a few weeks or months may respond to a hydroquinone skin lightener, though you may disfigure yourself if you're not careful. It's better to get your disease under control. Topical benzoyl peroxide is your best friend, and your physician may be able to add something if it's not sufficient.

Can you tell me, are skin lightening creams safe for acne scars?

Safe, yes. . Skin lightening creams such as those with hydroquinone are generally safe to use on the face and can help blend skin that has a splotchy appearance in color. However, the cream is unlikely to help the scarring itself. That typically requires some sort of resurfacing procedure such as with a laser or dermabrasion. Using products with retin a (tretinoin) can help lightly resurface your skin. Read more...

I have used tretin 0.05% for my mild acne. To improve my skin tone, kojic skin lightening cream is used. But I have experienced mild bumps on my face.

In my experience. a product like the kojic acid lightening cream would be more likely to be impacting or causing the facial bumps than the Retin-A/retinoid product. It does cause skin irritation in certain individuals. I would stop the lightening cream and see what happens. It might take 2-4 weeks to see any affect. If bumps persist, see your prescribing Dermatologist. Good wishes:) Read more...

Benzoyl peroxide . Bpo is a good place to start--there are many good over the counter preparations that you can leave on overnight and it will control mild acne. If you have moderate to severe acne, you are probably better off seeing a dermatologist and getting on more potent, prescription medication. The "scarring" you have noticed may be post inflammatory pigment, which will fade over time. Read more...

Many options. Hello and thank you for your excellent question. Skin blemishes can be caused by many different things, including dry skin, irritated skin, and acne (just to name a few). It is very difficult to give you a good recommendation without a full history and physical. I suggest that you consult with a board certified plastic surgeon. Good luck! Read more...

My skin is dry and having cracked heel. I have acne scars. What kind of cream I have to use?

2 different problems. Acne scars can be improved by dermatologist. Dry, cracked heels need moisturizing cream or lotion applied often. If there is redness or peeling between toes, need to treat athlete's foot with cream like lamisil (terbinafine). Watch for signs of infection: redness, swelling, pain, pus (especially if diabetic or poor circulation). Podiatrist can also recommend treatments. Read more...
Moisturizing lotions. For the feet, i like water-based moisturizing lotions. My favorites are dml lotion and dml forte cream. These are water based, and don't have any fragrences or colorings that could cause skin irritations. http://www.personandcovey.com/productdetail.asp?productid=19 for scars, try mederma cream.
