In brief: An emergency

Post-partum ("puerperal") psychosis is a psychiatric emergency.
Onset is within the first 2 weeks after delivery, and as early as the first 48 to 72 hours postpartum (earlier than typical postpartum depression). There's often mania or a mixed state; restlessness, agitation, poor sleep, paranoia, delusions, disorganized thinking, impulsivity, and behaviors placing mom & baby at risk. Help needed.
