Is lisinopril excellent for hypertension? What do u recommend to take for high bp? Thanks.

Lisinopril and HBP. Lisinopril (l) is a good drug for hbp therapy. It is a drug that should be given at the maximum dose, 40 mg/day, to get the largest reduction of blood pressure and protein (p) in the urine, if it is present. As a diabetic, you need to have a 24 hour urine to see if you do have p. If you do you need to reduce it with l one of the major side effects is a dry cough, usually at night. Speak to your md. My dad use to take nifedipine for his hypertension, is it okay for him to switch to lisinopril, is this a better drug??

Needs caution. The two drugs have different mechanisms of action. Not all people respond equally to each. And there are often racial differences in response to BP medications. The best approach would be to discuss this issue with ones doctor. It would not be unusual for a person to require therapy with both nifedipine and lisinopril (or other drugs in their respective classes). Read more...

Not really. lisinopril is an anti-hypertensive medication in a family ACE inhibitors. Generally, it lowers BP without changing the heart rate (pulse). It is not impossilbe, but not likely. I'd be interested to know what your heart rate was before starting the lisinopril, Suggest taking your pulse rate at different times of day, at rest, after exersice, before and after a meal. Are beta blockers propranolol just as good at treating hypertension as ACE inh lisinopril

It depends. Different people respond to different hypertension meds], well, differently. If you have conditions like portal hypertension, panic disorder, or chronic migraine headache along with hypertension, then the doctor may choose propanolol to treat two conditions with just one medicine.
