In brief: Yes

After first time spontaneous pneumothorax in young person 25% chance of a second one.
Should receive a ct scan to look for lung abnormalities.

actually, still low chance of 2nd after 1st episode, but higher chance of 3rd after 2nd episode, and so forth ...

But, would recommend CT at least 2 weeks after resolution (4-6 wks if possible). This may allow better visualization of subtle abnormalities.

In brief: Generally yes

A pneumothorax by trauma is different from spontaneous pneumothorax (sp).
Published 5yr first recurrence rates for primary sps are around 20-30+%. For secondary sps, 5yr first recurrence rates around 40+%. You should discuss with your thoracic surgeon the specifics and reasonable expectations of your pneumothorax. Be well.
