Yes. Food allergy is a very serious disease. It requires proper diagnosis and treatment. Treatment involves proper identification of the correct food allergen and education in reading labels and avoiding the food. One should also have an anaphylaxis treatment plan if apporpriate.
NO!!! Food allergies cause life threatening reactions. These reactions can only be effectively treated with Epinephrine (adrenaline). Antihistamines can treat skin symptoms, but if breathing difficulty or low blood pressure happen (which is impossible to predict), they will not help. Anyone with a food allergy should always have Epinephrine available.
