In brief: Dermatitis?

Herpes simplex i usually involves the junction of the skin and mucous membrane.
If your lesions were confined to the lips only, then it was likely from something else. Dermatitis involves only the skin (not the lip) and has no diagnostic meaning by itself. If the problem still has not gone away, get another opinion (dermatologist?).
