In brief: Few things to try...

Heartburn is very common and often lifestyle is a major contributing factor. Smoking/alcohol/caffeine/mint/fatty foods/too-spicey foods, and many medications cause heartburns.
Obesity and laying down after meals etc...Are other risks. So, if you can control the above, you r much less likely to suffer heartburn. If above not adequate, otc prilosec/zantac/pepcid may help. Consult doc. Good luck.
